Archie Grant Holmes

BELLA VISTA — Archie Grant Holmes, 86, of Bella Vista died June 11, 2009, at Circle of Life Hospice in Springdale. He was born May 12, 1923, in Fort Scott, Kan., to William Mac and Cleda Cross Holmes.He served in the Army's 13th Airborne Division during World War II and later in the 82nd Airborne Division at Normandy. He was plant manager for Crimsco Manufacturing and Stephen's Industries, and later vice president of Mar-Con Manufacturing, all in Kansas City, Mo. He moved to Bella Vista in 1991. He was a member of Judson American Baptist Church in Bella Vista.He was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel Norton Holmes, in 1996.Survivors include a son, Keith Holmes and wife Ann of Bella Vista; a daughter, Carol Holmes Riley and husband Andy of Honolulu; a sister, Mildred Courtois of Pleasanton, Kan.; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Judson American Baptist Church in Bella Vista, with the Rev. SPRINGDALE — Audrey Lou Baker, 65, of Springdale left this world Monday, June 10, 2009, while in Northwest Medical Center-Springdale. She was born July 22, 1943, at Avant, Okla., to Percy Ross and Minnie Mae Jewel Ankron Thomason.She married Ernest Elvin Baker in 1960, celebrating 42 years of marriage together and she worked at Valerie's as a factory worker. PRAIRIE DU SAC, Wis. — Barbara H. Ives, 91, died Feb. 21, 2009, at Maplewood Nursing Home. She was born Dec. 11, 1917, in Portland, Ore., to Everett and Gertrude Siebenthaler Isbell.She moved to Rogers in 1974 from Perry, Iowa, where she had a local radio station. She was active in the League of Women Voters, and enjoyed and performed in Little Theater productions. SHELL KNOB, Mo. — Billy Ray Bishop, 71, of Shell Knob died June 11, 2009, at St. John's Hospital in Berryville. He was born Aug. 16, 1937, in North Kansas City, Mo., to Len and Cecelia Conner Bishop.He worked for Cecil Myers Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep in Aurora, Mo., for many years. He was a Marine Corps veteran. He was a member of Eagles Masonic Lodge and was a Shriner.He was preceded in death by twin daughters.Survivors include his wife, Evelyn JoAnne "Jody" Bishop, whom he was married Feb. 13, 1958; three sons, Robert Wesley Bishop and wife Robin of Shell Knob, David Lynn Bishop and wife Cindy of Louisburg, Kan., and William Alan Bishop and wife Lisa of Shell Knob; a daughter, Nancy JoAnne Reed and husband, Steve of Leavenworth, Kan,; two brothers, Cecil B. He was born May 24, 1921, in Centertown, Mo., to Virgil Albert and Marybelle Anderson McKinney.He grew up in central Missouri and graduated from Smith-Cotton High School in 1940 and attended college for two years at Missouri Valley College in Marshall, Mo. At the outbreak of World War II, he joined the Army and served in the Pacific on New Guinea and Australia. Upon his return to Sedalia, he married Mattie Jo Heim in Kansas City, Mo., on Aug. 13, 1949.He was owner of McKinney Vacuum in Sedalia. He was also a member of Veterans of Foreign War. He had moved to Arkansas in January to be closer to his oldest son and daughterHe was preceded in death by his wife, three brothers and two sisters.He is survived by three sons, Doug of Fayetteville, Daryl and Gordon, both of Sedalia; a daughter, Ann of Fayetteville; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.A memorial service was held Saturday at the East Sedalia Baptist Church with the Rev. SPRINGDALE — Laneta Carol "Laney" Morriss, 47, of Springdale died June 12, 2009, at Circle of Life Hospice in Springdale. She was born Aug. 9, 1961, in Springdale to Janette C. and James L. Morriss Jr.She graduated from Springdale High School in 1979 and played in the Bulldog Band for three years. She attended the University of Arkansas and NorthWest Arkansas Community College. She was a member of Springdale Christian Church.She joined the Springdale Police Deparment as a radio operator in May 1984 and was certified as a patrol officer on Nov. 1, 1984. During her 25-year career at the police department she was a detective and served four years on the 4th Judicial Drug Task Force. She was promoted to sergeant in 1997 and in 2001 became the first woman promoted to lieutenant in the Springdale Police Department. She attended the FBI National Academy in 2002 and in 2004 became the first woman promoted to captain. She was assigned as division commander of the criminal invesdtigation division in 2006.She earned more than 2,200 training hours and received a senior law enforcement certificate. She was a certified law enforcement instructor, firearms instructor, team leader for the hostage negotiation team and served on the Northwest Arkansas Crisis Center critical incident debriefing team. She was recognized 23 times for her service to the department and the community.Laney served on the Board of Directors for the Crisis Center from 2002-2007. During that time, she was the vice president in 2004-2005 and served as president in 2005-2006. She also acted as the liaison between the Springdale Police Department and the Crisis Center.She was a 2008 graduate of Arkansas Leader and previously completed Leadership Springdale.Survivors include her mother, Jan C. Morriss of Fayetteville; her father, Jim Morriss of Fayetteville; one brother, James L. During her 25-year career at the police department she was a detective and served four years on the 4th Judicial Drug Task Force.She was promoted to sergeant in 1997 and in 2001 became the first woman promoted to lieutenant in the Springdale Police Department. She attended the FBI National Academy in 2002 and in 2004 became the first woman promoted to captain. She was assigned as division commander of the criminal invesdtigation division in 2006.She earned more than 2,200 training hours and received a senior law enforcement certificate. She was a certified law enforcement instructor, firearms instructor, team leader for the hostage negotiation team and served on the Northwest Arkansas Crisis Center critical incident debriefing team. She was recognized 23 times for her service to the department and the community.Laney served on the Board of Directors for the Crisis Center from 2002-2007. During that time, she was the vice president in 2004-2005 and served as president in 2005-2006. She also acted as the liaison between the Springdale Police Department and the Crisis Center.She was a 2008 graduate of Arkansas Leader and previously completed Leadership Springdale.Survivors include her mother, Jan C. BENTONVILLE — Wayne Lee Coffelt, 72, of Bentonville, died June 13, 2009, at Northwest Medical Center-Bentonville after a short battle with pulmonary fibrosis and complications following heart surgery. He was born Sept. 9, 1936, in Bentonville above the old City Hall on West Central Avenue to Dale Hunter Coffelt and Margaret Hazel Davis.He married his wife, Lorena, on Jan. 11, 1959. He worked in and managed three area grocery stores until 1966 when he and his brother Charles owned and operated Coffelt Memorials until 1986. Semi-retiring in 1986, he and Lorena owned and managed rental property. He served on the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Bentonville's first Housing Authority, two years as chairman of the Retail Merchants of BentonvilleHe is survived by his wife; two daughters, Cathy Palmer and husband Kenny of Anderson, Mo., and Terry Carr and husband Jimmy of Bentonville; two granddaughters; three great grandsonsFuneral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday at Rollins Funeral Home in Rogers with Randy Featherston officiating.
