Charles Connelly Warfield, Jr., 69, a retired restaurant owner in Baton Rouge, La.  died Nov. 28, 2008 after a courageous battle with diabetes and kidney failure. He is a native of Helena and lived in Memphis before moving to Baton Rouge in 1977. He attended the University of Arkansas and was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. He had many friends across the country, including his much loved high school classmates with whom he celebrated their 50th reunion party in May 2007. A private service will be held at a later date in Arkansas. He leaves his wife, Carol Anne Hinson Warfield; daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Dennis Skerrett and their children, Will, Anna and Ben; son and daughter-in-law, Chip Warfield and Laurie Bradshaw and their son, Cameron; sister, Carol Shields; sister-in-law, Jane Warfield Montgomery; nephews, Rick and Randy Warfield; and nieces, Ashley and Kensey Shields. Edgar Allen Hardy, 43, of Springdale died Dec. 2, 2008, at Northwest Medical Center in Fayetteville.  He was born April 15, 1965 in Helena to Earl Edmund and Martha June Hardy. He served in the Air Force from 1984 to 1989 where he was trained as a medical technologist.  He spent 20 years in the laboratory field retiring from the Veteran’s Medical Center in Fayetteville in 2007.  He was a member of Gentry Lodge No. 222, F&AM of Arkansas. He was a member of Sequoyah United Methodist Church in Fayetteville. Allen loved country music and was a Razorback fan. His father, Earl Edmund Hardy, preceded Allen in death.   He leaves his loving wife of 6 years Debra Ellen Gilbert Hardy of the home; his children Tristan Adam Hardy and granddaughter Geneviette of Schofield Barracks, Honolulu, Hawaii; Danielle Nichole Self and husband Justin of Honolulu, Hawaii; Ian McGregor Gilbert of the home and twins Jillian Siobhan and Adrian Duncan Hardy of the home. Gaytan J. Saia, 88, died Friday, Nov. 28, 2008 in Abilene, Texas. Funeral Mass with Msgr. Fred Nawarskas officiating was held on Tuesday, Dec. 2 at the Holy Family Catholic Church. A private entombment will be held in Elmwood Memorial Park. Saia will be moved to the new Texas State Veterans Cemetery when it opens at a later date. Gaytan was born the son of Sam Saia and Grace Maggio Saia on June 27, 1920 in Helena where he grew up and graduated from high school. He joined the Navy on his 21st birthday and served until 1947, seeing the invasion of Okinawa in 1945 and witnessing atomic bomb testing at Bikini Atoll in July 1946. After two years away from the service, he enlisted in the Army in 1949 and served until 1963. In 1966 he was recalled to active duty for service in Vietnam and retired a second time in October 1969. Gaytan had accumulated a total of 24 years in service to our country. After his life in the military, Saia graduated from the University of Las Vegas and became a registered nurse. He worked several years at the El Paso State School and later came to Abilene after taking a position with PASSAR as a nursing home inspector. He was a member of DAV, the American Legion, VFW and NCOA and was an active member of the Holy Family Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Carol Saia of Abilene, Texas; two sons, Gaytan Saia Jr. and wife, Jeannette of Georgia and James Saia and wife, Amy of Pennsylvania; a daughter, Kitty Gelberd and husband, Morton of Florida; three stepsons, Anthony Lally and wife, Mary of Hawthorn Wood, Ill., Thomas Lally and wife, Kathy of Romeoville, Ill. and Timothy Lally and wife, Monica of Aurora, Ill.; five sisters, Florine Walters, Sister Grace Saia, SCN, Virginia Egan and husband, Leo, Joy Hibbard and husband, Pete, and Agnes Smith and husband, J.T.; 16 grandchildren, Dory, Jake, Jana, Luke, Riley, Brandon, Emory, Cody, Maggie, Sam, Stacy, Lisa, Tommy, T.J. ANDERSON, Mo. -- Jean E. Kauffman, 76, of Anderson, died Dec. 5, 2008, at the Freeman Hospital in Neosho, Mo. She was born on April 9, 1932, in Christiana, Pa., to Glenn C. and Mariam McClune Riley. On July 22, 1948 in Elkton, Md., she married Frank H. Kauffman Jr. They resided in Pennsylvania until moving to Missouri in 1973. She worked in the field of nursing at Bates Hospital in Bentonville until retiring in 1988. She was a longtime member of the Tracy Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Frank H. Kauffman Jr. on May 16, 2002; two sons, Frank and David Kauffman.Survivors include four daughters, Frances Bushong of Annville, Pa., Joann Flowers of Lititz, Pa., Janet Polhemas of Ventura, Calif., and Judy Polhemas of Goodman, Mo.; two sons, Barry Kauffman of Coburn, Pa., and Larry Kauffman of Crain, Mo.; 20 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; a sister, Glenna Brown of Paradise, Pa.Graveside funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Tracy Cemetery with Jack Austin and Farron Anderson officiating.The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. tonight in the Ozark Funeral Home Chapel in Anderson, online at www.ozarkfuneralhome.com. |

SPRINGDALE -- Marion Pleasant Stafford Warner, 100, died December 5, 2008 in Springdale. She was born on Sept. 15, 1908, to John P. and Marion Myrtle Stafford.She was a salutatorian of the Springdale High School Class of 1925 and, at the time of her death was considered the oldest Springdale High School graduate. She finished four years of high school in the historic building that is now the administrative offices of Springdale School District.While at the University of Arkansas, she was a member of the Rootin' Rubes Club for women whose charge was to foster university activities and uphold college spirit an loyalty; Black Fairs, an honorary drama group at the University of Arkansas; Delta Delta Delta sorority. As a young girl, she worked for The Springdale News, the newspaper her father, John P. Stafford, established in 1887 when he was 18.The newspaper later became The Morning News.At the insistence of her husband, she learned to fly an airplane and traveled the world with him whose assignments with Federal Aviation Administration took them to many stateside locations in addition to the Panama Canal Zone, Argentina, Guam, and Hawaii. She and her husband were married for 72 years. She was an avid golfer.She was predeceded in death by husband Edward "Eddie" Mathes Warner; her parents; brothers John L."Fay" Stafford, Ellis M. Stafford, Guy C. Virginia Smith Calloway, 86, died Wednesday. She was born in Corning on July 15, 1922 to the late Tezzie and Dorcas Smith. After meeting her future husband, the late Rudolph Calloway, they settled in Holly Grove and he established a successful farming business. Virginia was an active member of the Holly Grove United Methodist Church, an officer in the Holly Grove Women’s Club and a member of “The Committee of 100.”  She possessed a great sense of humor, an out-going personality and could “light up the room” wherever she was. She loved social gatherings, was an excellent bridge player, and enjoyed thoroughbred racing and playing golf. Virginia leaves a daughter, Sue and husband, Dr. John Mathews of Helena; sons Jerry Calloway and wife Rose of Overland Park, Kansas, Doug Calloway and wife Janet of Holly Grove; four grandsons, Dr. Steven Mathews and wife Tammy of Hot Springs, Jason Calloway and wife Shannon of Overland Park, Kansas, Michael Calloway and wife Erin of Houston, Texas, Ben Calloway and wife Courtney of North Little Rock; two granddaughters, Stephanie Wildman and husband Rev.
